...who, at the very least, have computer-recording capacity.
The backstory: I've been listening to a lot of early '80s music lately, zeroing in on DA, All Fall Down-era 77s, some Devo, XTC, and similar minded bands. I realize I've missed that sound lately and had an idea. With modern programs, MP3s can be mailed all around the world and pieced together in these same programs. Essentially, you can be all over the world and still record as a "band" with not much more than an internet connection.
So here's the pitch: I'd like to write and record an original song with people with the ability and interest in doing so. I'm not looking for more, at first, than writing the one song because I'd like to see if this will work, and if it does, if the results are any good. If it is, who knows?
What would happen: I'd try to work up a demo that will flesh out the song idea, then that would go to whomever joins in with guitar, bass and drums. I'd like to handle the keyboards and maybe sing the song, but if someone else can knock the vocals out of the park, I'd gladly step back to backup vox. Each person will take the demo and write their part into the pre-determined tempo, send it back to me and I'd take a stab at assembly (unless someone steps up with production skills - if you're offering, I'm accepting!)
This is meant to be fun, but it's also an offer to make real music at a state of convenience for all involved. We all have dayjobs (and maybe we love our dayjobs... I don't, but just sayin') but it might be a chance to make the music we love.
If you think you might like to give it a go, contact me a dw.dunphy@gmail.com. I hope you'll take this into consideration.
